Monticello Nannies

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I SEE NANNIES ADVERTISED IN THE CLASSIFIED SECTION. WHY SHOULD I GO THROUGH MONTICELLO NANNIES WHEN I CAN HIRE DIRECTLY?

When you delegate your search for the perfect nanny to Monticello Nannies, you only have to make one phone call. We discover as much about your family’s needs as possible, visit you in your home, then use our years of nanny experience to match your particular family with up to 3 pre-screened candidates that are qualified to fill your family’s unique needs.

We assist in drawing up a Nanny/Family Agreement that details the exact responsibilities, hours, salary of the nanny, and any vacation or benefits you decide to offer your nanny. This is where our years of experience really is invaluable. We know how important it is to communicate each party’s expectations in the beginning of the nanny/family relationship, and our goal is to facilitate great working relationships among all our clients.

We guarantee that our nannies will meet your expectations! You and your nanny will be on a 30-day trial during your first month of employment.

  • WHY SHOULD I REGISTER WITH MONTICELLO NANNIES TEMPORARY/ON-CALL NANNY SERVICE?

If you need occasional childcare, you can register with Monticello Nannies and have access to our pool of pre-screened, experienced childcare professionals for one year. When you need childcare, just make one call to Monticello Nannies and we will match you with a childcare provider who can be there when you need it. For reliability, safety, and to guarantee the best care for your children, Monticello Nannies is the way to go.

  • IS THE NANNY EMPLOYED BY THE FAMILY OR BY MONTICELLO NANNIES?

The Nanny is not an employee of Monticello Nannies. Although all of our nannies are expected to uphold the standards of what Monticello Nannies defines as excellent childcare, they are independent of the agency. When a job offer is accepted, the nanny becomes an employee of the family. Temporary nannies are considered independent contractors but are held to the same standards of excellence as permanent, professional nannies. We only place nannies who have a history of success.

  • DOES THE AGENCY HELP RESOLVE PROBLEMS/DISPUTES BETWEEN FAMILIES AND NANNIES?

Monticello Nannies will assist your family or the nanny when a dispute arises within the 30-day trial period at the start of employment. If you decide you would prefer to work with another candidate, we will provide you with one additional search free of charge. After the trial period but within six months after service begins, client can request a replacement caregiver at a reduction of 50% of the referral fee. There are also other options if issues arise, which are detailed in the final services agreement.

  • DOES MONTICELLO NANNIES RECRUIT NANNIES LOCALLY OR FROM OVER-SEAS?

We are able to place any qualified caregiver who would like to come and spend at least one year in the area. As for our clients, however, we emphasize serving families in the Charlottesville Area so that we are able to achieve the highest level of personal service.

  • AS A NANNY, WHY AM I BETTER OFF WORKING THROUGH AN AGENCY THAN FINDING JOBS ON MY OWN?

Working through an agency provides many benefits that are not available when finding work independently, and it never costs you a dime. We do invest in you, though. By checking your background and employment history, we provide confirmation to the families you will be working for that you are an excellent choice. We also talk with you about your childcare skills and experiences and verify that you possess some key qualities that make a great nanny. Once you become a Monticello Nanny, the families you work with will know that you are among the best childcare professionals in town.

For permanent nannies, we can find you the best jobs in the area that match your schedule and requirements. We can offer advice on interviewing skills, CPR courses and first aid training. We facilitate the kind of communication during the hiring process that results in a clear understanding of your duties and compensation and draw up a written contract between you and the family that you can refer back should issues arise.

Our Temporary/On-Call Nannies have access to a variety of jobs that can be coordinated around your schedule. You can work as much or as little as you like at any given time. If you have a short-term agreement with a client for on-going care and need to miss a day, we will send a replacement. If you specialize in caring for a specific age group, want to work in homes with (or without) pets, or just work on weekends, we can help you find the type and amount of work that suits you best.

  • DOES A NANNY ALWAYS GET BENEFITS?

The benefits that a nanny receives as part of a compensation package from a family vary according to the level of experience and education. Most part-time or relatively inexperienced nannies do not receive benefits or paid vacation days. If your nanny starts without benefits, does a great job, and you anticipate a long-term relationship, adding benefits or paid vacation to their salary is a good option for reflecting your appreciation, and it gives your nanny incentive to keep doing a great job.

  • DO NANNIES PAY A FEE TO JOIN THE AGENCY?

Monticello Nannies never charges nannies for a placement. We do invest in our nannies through training and the cost of screenings. A good nanny is invaluable though, and we know that. We are committed to serving the nannies who represent our agency as well as the families who hire them.
